East Coast Trip Is Over

As I write this I am sitting on a U.S. Airways flight heading towards home and Phoenix, Arizona. Today ends my time off from work and also my vacation on the east coast. The time off from work was needed badly and I am glad I got to spend some time with some great people. The highlight of my trip to the east coast was the New York City part which I really enjoyed.

I was glad that I was able to experience PodCampNYC and it was great being able to meet certain people who I’ve been following for a while in the video and blogging world. What made it even better though was having other Justin.tv users there. Originally I had planned on going to PodCamp with just one person who was coming in from Pennsylvania. I got an unexpected surprise when on the 1st day another JTV user was in attendance. The 2nd day it was like a JTV meetup with 4 other users showing up. Having all these different broadcasters together was sort of funny. Everyone had their cameras going live out to the internet and with that many streams going you had podcamp attendees jumping in front of the camera trying to get some face time. Another great thing about PodCamp was the musicians that were there with IProng. Many of them got on camera and just started playing for the viewers. The only thing bad I have to say about PodCamp was the sessions. Many of the sessions focused on education which is not something I am interested in at all. So for me personally the sessions were not the best. But I know that the majority of people who attended did enjoy the sessions.

For the middle of the trip I stayed in Connecticut visiting with my parents and a few friends. Nothing to exciting happened during my time in CT but it was great to see some old friends and have some time with my parents who I don’t talk to enough. I think I need to be nagged by someone occasionally to call them. The end of the trip was spent in Delaware where I stayed with some relatives and was able to see my grandmother. I won’t go into to much detail but my grandmother has cancer and I really wanted to see her. She has been going to chemo lately which is making her very weak. According to the doctors though she should be rid of the cancer after a few more months. Delaware once again was uneventful. Just a lot of family time which is great but at times is a little boring I must say. Once again though it was a great vacation but happy to be on my way home. Looking forward to getting back to my normal life in Arizona.

JTV Lifecaster’s Share Table with Podango at PodCampNYC

Seeing as though lots of people are talking about this I will set the record straight. No one hi-jacked any tables. The 2 users of JTV who were there at the time (myself and Anthony) were asked to move our stuff off a table for a sponsor. The sponsor offered to share part of the table with us. This sponsor was Podango. We put our stuff down and the day went on. So thanks Lee for giving us part of the table to have fun with. Below is Lee getting a little camera time to explain Podango.

A look back at the early days of Justin.tv

It is so hard to believe that I have been apart of Justin.tv for over a year now. So much has changed in a year. Some things good and some things bad. Through JTV I have had many awesome memories and met so many great people. Without Justin.tv I would never had joined twitter. I would have never started doing videos and I most importantly would have never started this blog. All this social crap I am into nowadays all began with Justin.tv. But lets take a look back to 1 year ago from my perspective.

5 days after they launched I discovered Justin Kan and JTV. The concept of the site was interesting to me. Before Justin came around you had 24/7 video broadcasts but the cameras were always stationary. The fact that Justin had a camera on his hat and it was streaming live audio and video all day long was just amazing to me. The 1st month had to be my favorite because you got to see these 4 guys try and figure out what to do with this startup. You were able to watch and listen to everything. In later months Justin would start muting the mic but in that 1st month you got to hear all the brainstorming and arguments. The epic battles between Emmett and Michael. The mysterious Kyle who wasn’t on camera much but we would hear about how he was a home wrecker. Of course you had Justin who would take the cam in the bathroom when he peed and pooped. It was more than just watching Justin all day. You got to watch the entire JTV crew sitting on the couches in a small apartment joking around and shooting ideas off each other. You also got to watch them deal with all the media attention and of course the people on the street wondering why he had a camera on his head

Nowadays you see the occasional person complain about chat but it is 10000x better than the early chat days. When the site 1st launched the chat was horrific. The early days with the old lingr chat was just horrid and it is painful to even think about. I can remember a small number of people started a chat on the efnet irc server because site chat was so bad. I used to spend most of my free time in that chat. It is also the 1st time I talked to iJustine who used to visit the chat once in a while before she started broadcasting. Also a JTV regular who is still around was in the chat all the time. That person being SprintNXT. I can also remember the old Peanut Gallery chat being a lot of fun. I really miss those days.

I could ramble on about this topic but I think this post is long enough hah. Let me end it by listing some of my favorite early moments on Justin.tv. Please feel free to list some of your favorite moments from JTV in the early days in the comments.

  • Of course everyone remembers the Police Raid.
  • GGJeffy and Justin in the elevator.
  • Justin’s first on air kiss
  • Justin getting kicked out of the Gap and then reading my email later on about how I called the store.
  • Justin’s love for the mustard shorts.
  • Losing reception in the elevator
  • Digh at the apartment wearing a GoDaddy shirt and Justin constantly looking at her chest. Goooodadddy!
  • The Weeblies and Kyle sneaking into the bedroom and stealing the camera while Justin slept.
  • Jumping in the pool after getting 100 diggs.

Like I said I could go on and on about this stuff. The great thing about JTV is that it has archives. The archiver didn’t work that well back then but there is still a lot of video archived from March and April of 2007 so feel free to go back to the beginning of JTV time and watch it from the start! Also check out some of the old Justin.tv fan blogs. Justin.tv The Real Cast and also Justin.TV Guide.

I’m guessing Charles Trippy hasn’t heard of Justin.tv

Charles Trippy Yesterday I was doing my normal blog reading in google reader when I came across a post about Charles Trippy. For those who don’t know Charles Trippy is a popular youtuber with over 36,000 subscribers to his channel. Two days ago he uploaded a video titled Longest Video Ever On YouTube! The video is a little over 9 hours long and it looks like it was recorded with just a web cam connected to his desktop. He spent many days compressing the video over and over again just to get it under the 100mb limit that youtube has.

A web cam connected to his computer recording what was going on in his house. Where have I seen this before? Oh right it is called Justin.tv. Now I think it is great and all that he managed to get this 9 hour video under 100mb and uploaded to youtube. But if I want to watch a really long video I will watch Justin from start to finish. If you want to start watching Justin from the earliest days just go back to the start 9 months ago and continue on from there.
