Google Phone…My next phone?

It has been 12 months since my last phone purchase. For a year I’ve been using the HTC Dream aka G1. The phone’s been awesome to use and it has been fun to watch the evolution of android. The G1 is a special phone because it was not only the 1st android phone but it has a huge amount of people developing custom roms and themes for it. The phone has also been my only internet connection for many months. I’ve even started using it to connect my ps3 and play Call of Duty online. There is not much the phone can not do. The only downside I’ve seen to the phone is the camera. But that is a problem with many cell phones. Something I hope HTC and the rest of the phone makers work to improve. Parting with my G1 will be hard but I think it is time for a change.

The Google Phone aka Nexus One

Rumors have been going around for months about Google coming out with its own phone. Those rumors have turned out to be true. Over the past few days lots of information and even a few pictures have been leaking out about the Google Phone dubbed Nexus One. It really is a sexy looking phone. All the specs and pricing haven’t been released yet but many people are saying that it will be released on January 5th with the price tag of $199. Inside the phone is a speedy snapdragon processor. The camera on the nexus one should be a big improvement from my G1. It is supposed to be a 5mp camera. The only thing that could make this phone even bigger and better for me was if it came with Flash 10 on it. But I don’t see that happening since it is taking Adobe forever to release an updated version of Flash for smart phones. I will be getting this phone the day it is released unless of course the pricing is wrong. Hopefully Google and HTC release some official information about the phone soon.

iJustine brings us Eggs 2.0

It is Easter and probably the most popular thing to do for Easter is color eggs with your family. This year Justine took a web 2.0 twist to the old tradition of coloring eggs and decorated eggs with web 2.0 logos. Lots of my favorites are in there such as Twitter, Google and Qik. I was surprised to see one web site missing from her egg decorations though. This being Justin.tv which she spent so much time broadcasting on. It is a fun video and I have to say she has some serious skills decorating eggs. Happy Easter!

Revver gets acquired…Yahoo! relaunches video site

A lot has been going on in the world of video these days. Yahoo and Livevideo.com both came out with services to broadcast yourself live to the world. Another big rumor going around was that Revver was looking to sell. Reportedly they were trying to sell for between 300k to 500k. Well those reports were way off in terms of the selling amount.

5 million is the amount of dollars that Live Universe paid for Revver. If you are not familiar with Live Universe they also own Live Video. Personally 5 million seems a bit high but it is great for the people at Revver who were basically in debt. The Revver employees are expected to continue working under the new management. I’ve been a fan of Revver for a while and upload all my videos to it. My Revver page is at revver.com/u/smojo. They have a very strict policy on using copyrighted media which is sometimes annoying but I think it is a good policy for them to have. We will have to wait and see if they try and integrate Revver and LiveVideo in some way.

Yahoo! Video got a major update yesterday. It currently holds the number 3 spot in the video site market when it comes to amount of viewers. Obviously Youtube/Google is the leader in the market with Fox Interactive Media in the second position. It was really in need of an update and they have finally done it. Some of the major differences you will see are a 16:9 player, capacity increases and also featured sections for different topics. You are also able to use JumpCut to edit your video now which is a nice feature. My Yahoo! Video page is at HERE.

Y! Live open to public. What impact will it have?

Y! Live Whoa Error Image

Yahoo! Live or also known now as Y! Live made its debut to the public yesterday. Many people were late to the party and got there when the party was at maximum capacity. Everyone included myself were greeted by the image above. The most visited site on the net could not handle a few hundred people going to live.yahoo.com to watch some live streams. It seems that the Yahoo! Live team were not expecting this many people and it makes me wonder why they didn’t have some sort of private beta to help test this thing out before it was open to everyone. One thing that is safe to say is the service will run smoothly once they throw some servers at.

Having a major internet brand like Yahoo! jump into the live streaming business is going have a major impact on some of the live video sites. If Y! Live becomes slightly popular you could see other major companies such as Google and News Corp joining in and trying to play catch up. The easiest way to play catch up would be to buy a startup. So is it possible that in the future we could see such sites as Justin.tv, Ustream or even BlogTV being bought up. Guess we will just to wait and see what the future holds. I’m anxious to see what happens.
