Many of you will not know this but at the moment my current workplace is a retail store. I’m working in the kids department of this store selling baby items and furniture. During the last few months the amount of recalls hitting our store has been staggering. We all know and have seen on the news about the toys coming from China with lead in them. Some of the most popular toys like Thomas the Train and Dora the Explorer had to be recalled. Then in the last week an even greater recall happened. Simplicity who manufactures baby cribs did a recall on 2 cribs. These 2 cribs were our best selling cribs at my store. The reason for the recall was because of a faulty drop-side rail. A few children were killed because they suffocated in these cribs. Where were these cribs made you ask? China. A few days ago another recall was issued for a Kolcraft play yard. It seems like everyday I go into work I am no longer actually selling stuff to customers. My whole time is spent gather recalled items and shipping them back to manufacturers.
I’m not really sure what to make of all this. One thing I am happy about is that I do not have any kids. If I did have any kids I would be a nervous freaked out parent. The majority of items sold in this country are Made in China. Theres not much we can do I believe though. China’s products are cheap and people will still be willing to buy them. Americans will never be able to check all the imported products coming into the country. It is just not possible to check it all for defects and dangers.
Let me just give you a quick rundown on the items that have been recalled in the past few months at my store. Infant car seats from Evenflo and Cosco, swings and jump stations from Evenflo and Fisher Price, toys from Mattel, Fisher Price, cribs from Delta Luv and Simplicity. Not to mention the 2 dozen different teething items from various companies. One thing they all had in common though is that they were Made in China

I have two of these Delta Luv Cribs for my twins. I had the problem with the rails and board falling out, I called the Consumer Protection Agency, they came to the house and measured it and took pictures of it, but I never heard of a recall. What could I do now that the cribs are 2 1/2 years old ??
Marlene I would call Delta and see if they are able to do anything. When you call Delta make sure you have the model number of the crib, the country it was made in and if possible the order number on it. Delta does not want to people having faulty merchandise so I would call them and tell them your situation.
