Yahoo! Live or also known now as Y! Live made its debut to the public yesterday. Many people were late to the party and got there when the party was at maximum capacity. Everyone included myself were greeted by the image above. The most visited site on the net could not handle a few hundred people going to live.yahoo.com to watch some live streams. It seems that the Yahoo! Live team were not expecting this many people and it makes me wonder why they didn’t have some sort of private beta to help test this thing out before it was open to everyone. One thing that is safe to say is the service will run smoothly once they throw some servers at.

Having a major internet brand like Yahoo! jump into the live streaming business is going have a major impact on some of the live video sites. If Y! Live becomes slightly popular you could see other major companies such as Google and News Corp joining in and trying to play catch up. The easiest way to play catch up would be to buy a startup. So is it possible that in the future we could see such sites as Justin.tv, Ustream or even BlogTV being bought up. Guess we will just to wait and see what the future holds. I’m anxious to see what happens.

Miss iJustine truly is the internet after today. She is out in Ontario, CA at the Podcast and New Media Expo for 3 days and so far Justine has been very busy. She started the day bringing her Justin.tv broadcast back online after a little downtime. Once at the Expo she hooked up with Talkshoe and started joining in with that. Justine then jumped in on a Ustream broadcast with Mason who is a ustreamer. So at one point she was interacting and even taking a call or 2 on talkshoe. Broadcasting on Justin.tv as always and also broadcasting on Ustream. 3 streams, 3 sites, 1 iJustine. Just mind boggling.

Last night was a very busy night for the Justin.tv site. Neither of the big stars of JTV were broadcasting. Those being Justine and the Jonas Brothers. But their was one channel that attracted almost 90% of the the viewers. This channel was being broadcast by a kid who looked like he was around 12 years old. His channel was popular because he was streaming live the WWE’s PPV Unforgiven. Most people who saw the PPV had to pay $40. If you were lucky though you got to see the whole thing free on Justin.tv with about 4000 other people.

Another live streaming website also joined in on the fun. Ustream.tv had at one point 3 different channels going who were all broadcasting the Unforgiven PPV. It seemed though that Ustream could not keep up with all the viewers . For a few hours their were many problems connecting to streams and chat. It could have been just been them doing maintenance though.

The most that will come out of this is that JTV and Ustream will get a letter from the WWE that copyrighted material was broadcast and to take down any archives of the PPV. My concern though is that this will lead to other people broadcasting copyrighted material. Last nights broadcast shows that the sites won’t take you down for broadcasting something copyrighted. I just hope Justin and the crew at Justin.tv are prepared to deal with legal problems.
