Justine Takes Streaming to a New Level, Live on 3 Sites

Miss iJustine truly is the internet after today. She is out in Ontario, CA at the Podcast and New Media Expo for 3 days and so far Justine has been very busy. She started the day bringing her Justin.tv broadcast back online after a little downtime. Once at the Expo she hooked up with Talkshoe and started joining in with that. Justine then jumped in on a Ustream broadcast with Mason who is a ustreamer. So at one point she was interacting and even taking a call or 2 on talkshoe. Broadcasting on Justin.tv as always and also broadcasting on Ustream. 3 streams, 3 sites, 1 iJustine. Just mind boggling.

Justine wants everyone to LEAVE STEVE ALONE!

No the Steve she is talking about is not me. Justine got many requests in chat to do a Chris Crocker spoof and she delivered today. In the video you can see she is very passionate about Steve Jobs and threatens anyone who messes with him! I know I’m scared after watching it. So for your viewing pleasure here is Justine’s latest video. Come on guys just leave him alone. It’s not his fault almost a million people got screwed out of 200 dollars.

A Guide to “Lifecasting” needed!

Very recently there have been many problems plaguing Justin.tv and the new channels. Some of these issues are regarding privacy and personal information. While some have to do with chat moderation and running a channel. Most of these problems could have been avoided if Justin.tv had some type of tips list or a Guide to Lifecasting. Justin had spoken in the past about writing a guide but I’m thinking he will never finish it. New lifecasters need to be warned and prepared before they turn the camera on.

Why am I writing this post?

Well if you have spent some time on Justin.tv in the past few days you might have noticed or heard that 3 of the newer channels had their personal information leaked and posted in chat. When I say personal information I mean their full name, address and phone numbers. When this type of information is posted it leads to people doing some not so nice things. 2 of the channels to have their information posted were Bob and Ashley. The 3rd to have their information posted was Amber. If you are not familiar with Amber she is only 16 years old and is living at home with the parents. She received numerous phone calls from people and also had pizza delivered to her house. Yesterday she posted in her chat that she quit and will no longer lifecast.

How could this have been happened?

Well it is easy for me to see how Bob and Ashley’s info were found. They own domains and the whois listing is available to the public. Amber on the other hand does not own a domain. Some have said that they must have gotten the information from her paypal account. This is a possibility but very unlikely. As far as I can see when you donate to someone you only get access to the persons full name and their email address. There are many ways to get a persons information though. White pages, publicly posting it somewhere and of course you always have those pay sites that get the information.

I’ll be making a page dedicated to tips and information for new lifecasters. It seems it is needed since the problems will rise as they add more channels.

New JTV app hits Facebook

After a long day at my job I got to some real work at home. Doug of ahhyeahforchrist requested that I make his channel a facebook application. Seeing that I like his channel and because he asked nicely I went ahead and made an app for AhhYeahforChrist. So that is facebook app #4 for Justin.tv. Be one of the 1st to add AhhYeahforChrist’s Facebook App to your facebook profile!

For the second time this month Justine is on the front page of yahoo. This time it is for lifecasting. Justin and Justine are featured on Yahoo’s People of the Web. The amount of traffic coming to JTV from this article is staggering. At one point the number of viewers watching Justine was over 3,000. Which makes me cringe when I think of the chatroom. The chat goes by fast when there is under 200 viewers. Just imagine how bad it is when you have 3000 viewers trying to get Justine’s attention as they all scream “JUSTINE SAY MY NAME!!!!!!!” or “WAVE TO ME JUSTINE!!!!!!!!”
It is nice to see Justin being included in this story. He hasn’t gotten any big press in the past few months. For Justin’s interview they talked about the night he got “laid” and how that brought in many viewers. Also during the taping of the interview an unexpected thing happens. A random guy gets his cell phone stolen from him and Justin catches the whole thing on video. Justin then offers to send the archive video to the guy to see who the criminal was. It was just a matter of time before Justin caught something illegal on his cam.

JesseDew and Tibtie too…

A little over 2 weeks has passed since iBill Madness happened to Justine. Now one of the newer channels is getting some buzz around the internet. This new channel is not getting any media attention at all. You will not see it on ABC nor will you see it on your favorite news website. The new channel is JesseDew TV and he is creating a buzz on many discussion boards across the internet. Jesse is creating a buzz because of the channels very odd content. Let me explain what this “lifecast” has been so far. Basically Jesse sits in front of his web cam for a few hours yelling at the chatters and viewers. Telling them to get off his page and to stop watching him. Of course all the chatters do the exact opposite of this and some bring in their internet buddies. When Jesse is live it is very hard to chat. Massive kicking/banning goes on in the chat as more and more people join to watch and comment on the freak show that is JesseDew. I believe it is all an act and so far his acting job has worked to get him lots of viewers. If it’s not an act then he needs some serious help. You can check out JessDew TV @ justin.tv/thechophouse

TibTie.tv comes to Facebook

Kary and Gerhard are the lifecasters in front of the camera for TibTie. Since they went live the viewers have seen everything from Gerhard in a thong to lightsaber wars. Also who can forget the great performance of some Guns n Roses classics. They have grown their own following on Justin.tv. Happy Birthday Kyle! Kyle Who?

The Homewrecker also known as TheRinger was born on this date in 1985. Kyle the quiet Kansas boy who is turning 22 today plays a key part in the JTV team. He dropped out of MIT to help Justin and the rest of the crew with the new startup. TheRinger is someone who has all around tech skills. He can do hardware and software. He’s gone from doing BattleBots to making it possible to stream live video from anywhere. Without Kyle there would be no Justin.tv.

iBill Madness Spreads

The story featuring Justine’s 300 page iPhone bill has peaked I believe. Yesterday was a crazy day for Justine and also her JTV channel. The iBill video and story where all over the news and web. Justine at one point had her video on the front page of Yahoo.com and Myspace.com. Which is just crazy when you think about it. Yahoo is the most visited site on the web! The video on yahoo is now over 1 million views. Some of the other notable view counts on the video are:

Myspace – 794,754
Break.com – 548,013
Revver.com – 337,695
Youtube – 255,176 (The youtube view count is not accurate because other people have ripped the video and uploaded it to their accounts. After looking a bit I believe the youtube number is around 550,000)

The video has gotten tons of views within just a few days and the amount of stories about the bill has been great to watch also.
Hundreds of news articles and thousands of blog posts have been made about this. The amount of people coming to Justine’s channel has been rising everyday too. For the brief amount of time I was on yesterday I saw a huge amount of chatters. At one point my computer was starting to freeze because it could not handle the amount of messages in the chat. This is great for Justine and great for Justin.tv.

iJustine, The Viral Queen

Our little Justine has grown so much in the past few days. The iPhone bill craze of 2007 has arrived and I’m really not surprised at the amount of attention she is getting. It was just a matter of time before she got some press. Let me just give you some numbers on the 300 page iPhone bill video. The video itself has been watched over 570,000 times. The most views coming at Break.com where it has over 360,000 views. The funny part about the video on Break.com is that it was submitted by Justine with the description of

This incredibly hot chick gets her first bill for the iPhone and although the bill was not excessive she received over 300 pages showing every text message she made with unlimited text messaging.

The story about the iPhone bill has been covered worldwide. TV and newspapers have taken notice about this story. Not to mention the hundreds of blogs that have talked about Justine and her boxed bill. USA Today did a nice writeup about it titled How many trees did your iPhone bill kill?. The reason this all started in my view is because of the Gizmodo story The Madness Begins, which was on the frontpage of DIGG.com and was dugg over 2000 times.

Something I keep seeing on every site is people asking the question “How can she do so much texting?” If you follow iJustine you would know that she has to touch her phone every few minutes. The phone vibrates nonstop all day. Between Facebook notifications and Twitter updates I can see her easily having 30,000 text messages. Just think of how many people are trying to either add her on facebook or sending her messages. I myself get about 25 text updates from facebook a day. Justine’s amount is probably off the charts. I’m glad to see Justine getting all this attention. Hopefully it will bring out the sponsors!

New Justin.tv Look!

The date was August 5th, the time was around 11pm pst. Justin and the crew released a brand new Justin.tv with a new look and more importantly some great new features to the site. Here is my review of the new Justin.tv.

Channel Pages

Some of the notable changes of the channel pages are:

Brand New Header for the site

An archive page for each channel with best of Tips and recent Tips

Newly submitted tips now show up in chat and also under the video player after being submitted.

A list of recent channel tips for the current channel your on and also a separate list for recommended tips for all channels

A redesigned JTV video player

Portal Page

I have to admit that I really like the portal page. Of course as you can see they are using coverflow which is used in iTunes and on the iPhone. Hopefully they won’t be sued by apple for “borrowing” coverflow. The portal makes it really easy to browse through all the channels as you can just click an arrow to go to the next casters stream without having to load up a new page. Very handy for those who are channel surfers.

Archive Page

An example of an archive page can be seen HERE The archive I am linking to is the one where Norah falls out of her chair. One of my personal favorites.
I can see the JTV crew have really worked hard on this page and it is almost perfect. 3 new features they added with this updates are:

The ability to download the archive video of the tip! So now you can download your favorite archive.

You can now comment on tips.

Embeddable archive video. JTV now gives you the code so you can embed your favorite tip on your own webpage.

Some changes are needed.

As far as the archives and tips I would like to see them implement the ability to delete a tip or comment that you have made.
Yes I know the portal page is just a beta page at the moment but I think it needs to be worked on to make it load a little quicker. Once the performance of the page is acceptable it should be the default page of justin.tv. Justin should not be the default page for JTV.

So go check out the new Justin.tv page. It’s a big step up from the last designs.
