Revver gets acquired…Yahoo! relaunches video site

A lot has been going on in the world of video these days. Yahoo and Livevideo.com both came out with services to broadcast yourself live to the world. Another big rumor going around was that Revver was looking to sell. Reportedly they were trying to sell for between 300k to 500k. Well those reports were way off in terms of the selling amount.

5 million is the amount of dollars that Live Universe paid for Revver. If you are not familiar with Live Universe they also own Live Video. Personally 5 million seems a bit high but it is great for the people at Revver who were basically in debt. The Revver employees are expected to continue working under the new management. I’ve been a fan of Revver for a while and upload all my videos to it. My Revver page is at revver.com/u/smojo. They have a very strict policy on using copyrighted media which is sometimes annoying but I think it is a good policy for them to have. We will have to wait and see if they try and integrate Revver and LiveVideo in some way.

Yahoo! Video got a major update yesterday. It currently holds the number 3 spot in the video site market when it comes to amount of viewers. Obviously Youtube/Google is the leader in the market with Fox Interactive Media in the second position. It was really in need of an update and they have finally done it. Some of the major differences you will see are a 16:9 player, capacity increases and also featured sections for different topics. You are also able to use JumpCut to edit your video now which is a nice feature. My Yahoo! Video page is at HERE.

Y! Live open to public. What impact will it have?

Y! Live Whoa Error Image

Yahoo! Live or also known now as Y! Live made its debut to the public yesterday. Many people were late to the party and got there when the party was at maximum capacity. Everyone included myself were greeted by the image above. The most visited site on the net could not handle a few hundred people going to live.yahoo.com to watch some live streams. It seems that the Yahoo! Live team were not expecting this many people and it makes me wonder why they didn’t have some sort of private beta to help test this thing out before it was open to everyone. One thing that is safe to say is the service will run smoothly once they throw some servers at.

Having a major internet brand like Yahoo! jump into the live streaming business is going have a major impact on some of the live video sites. If Y! Live becomes slightly popular you could see other major companies such as Google and News Corp joining in and trying to play catch up. The easiest way to play catch up would be to buy a startup. So is it possible that in the future we could see such sites as Justin.tv, Ustream or even BlogTV being bought up. Guess we will just to wait and see what the future holds. I’m anxious to see what happens.

Overheard: Writing a post about OH

Twitta Twitta Twitta, it is something I’m constantly checking all day long. One of the most popular things on Twitter and something I love about the site is the use of the term Overheard. You are able to track words on twitter but overheard is not one of them. My thinking is that it is so popular that they had to stop letting people track it.

So what exactly is an overheard tweet? Well to put it plain and simple when you hear someone say something strange, funny or crazy you send it to twitter with the message starting with overheard or OH. My favorite kind of OH tweets are when you overhear someone say a really dumb statement like this tweet.Overheard: “So who are you rooting for? The Yankees, or the Patriots?” . That one was sent in to twitter by Jim Mitchell

There is a great website dedicated to all the overheard tweets and it is Overheard.it. Every overheard twitter message shows up on the site so it has pages and pages of overheard tweets. If you are looking for a good laugh I would suggest browsing through a few pages and you will find some gems.

My ooVoo Day, Video chat with your favorite bloggers

My ooVoo Day is going to be a week-long event beginning February 10th. During this time you will be able to video chat with some high profile podcasters, bloggers and some girl with an i in front of her name. You will be able to do this using ooVoo.

ooVoo which officially launched back in June of 2007 gives you the ability to video chat with up to 6 people at a time. It has many more features though then just video. Personally I have been using it because you are able to make free phone calls which is saving me lots of money since all I have right now is a cell phone. Some other features of ooVoo are the ability to send video messages and files. Oh they also have text chatting as well for all of us who don’t want to be on camera at 10 in the morning. Feel free to add me on ooVoo my username is smojo12.

But lets get back to My ooVoo Day…Some of my favorite internet people are going to be participating in this. People like Chris Brogan, Irina Slutsky, iJustine and the list goes on and on. Being able to interact with some of these people is going to a fun time and I hope everyone joins in on the fun. Just the fact that you will have 6 video chatters at once will make it pretty interesting. Below is all linkage to join the fun.
