Who knew that HULU would be so Coolu?

View of HULU with the simpsons playing

Yesterday I was shocked when I received a beta invite to join Hulu.com. I didn’t even remember signing up to get into the beta. But I received an invite and decided to check it out and I’m glad that I did. For those unaware of what Hulu is let me give you a brief description.

Hulu is NBC Universal and News Corporation’s online video joint venture. Hulu videos will be played in their own embeddable branded player. Content from at least a dozen TV networks and two major film studios is promised. Initial distribution partners include AOL, Comcast, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo. – CrunchBase

So what makes Hulu so good? Well first and most importantly it is completely free. Hulu lets you watch complete episodes of some of your favorite shows and also has a few movies so far. It already has a pretty decent library of videos to watch and it is very early in the beta. Hulu’s library includes such popular shows as The Office, Family Guy, The Simpsons and one of my favorite shows of the past Doogie Howser. Yes it even has Doogie. You are also able to embed any of the videos. So someone could legally create a website with all the episodes of a show or a movie. Currently Hulu is using video ads during the episodes that run for 5 to 20 seconds. So basically if you are watching a 20 minute episode you will have a total of about 50 seconds of ads. Which is not bad at all. So enjoy the following episode of Family Guy which is embedded from Hulu.

**EDIT** December 28th, 2007
It looks like the first video I embedded was taken off the hulu site so here is a new video.

Road to Arizona, Dinos in Holbrook, AZ

It was day 5 of my trip to Arizona and and I was driving on I-40 going west. I had been driving in AZ for about an hour when all of a sudden a giant dinosaur popped up out of nowhere. Then a few minutes later another one showed up very close to the road. Had I been driving to long? Was I starting to hallucinate after looking at the road for hours and hours? After composing myself I continued to drive until I saw a sign for Stewart’s Petrified Wood Shop and it said that this place also had dinosaurs. My curious self decided to stop at this wood shop and take a look around.

Really not knowing what to expect I pulled off at exit 303. To get to the place you have to go on a dirt road and up a very small cliff. Once I parked my car it was time to look around. It was a very odd place with nothing around it for miles except the highway. As I started to walk around a bit I noticed a man starring at me from a window inside the shop. This creeped me out out for a second but then I started to walk towards this man and look inside the shop. This man I guess was Stewart and he informed me that the rock shop was opened in 1994 and the dinos were added as an attention grabber. Here are 2 videos I shot at this strange but pretty interesting place.

An Update is Needed. So Here it is! Part 2

The date is October 22nd and finally I have this great invention called electricity. So my air conditioning works and more importantly my fridge and stove are now juiced up with power. My roommate and his family arrive in Tempe on Tuesday and the apartment starts to fill up with all the essentials and of course lots of food. The best thing that arrives is this small white box that rhymes with pee. This box would give me hours of enjoyment for the next 2 weeks while I didn’t have cable.

Speaking of cable, for some reason it took me 2 weeks to order cable tv and internet from COX. Once it was ordered I had a whole mess of problems with them. First I had to wait 4 days to pickup my equipment. Then once I had the equipment I had to wait for them to turn on my cable which took them 3 whole days. Unfortunately that was not the end of it because my apartments wiring for cable was all screwed up and I was forced to rewire the entire apartment. So after a few drilled holes and lots of coaxial cable I finally had my cable setup working properly.

November 3rd rolled around and this little thing called PODCAMPAZ happened. My next post will detail my podcampAZ experience as it was a fun filled day and deserves its own post.
